NASA’s Perseverance rover makes a strange discovery on Mars

Exploration of the extra-terrestrial environment is currently one of NASA’s priorities. Thus, recently, one of NASA vehicles sent to Mars discovered a rock mass after months of fruitless exploration. For the moment, analyzes are still being carried out by researchers, but the discovery made by the rover has greatly impacted a good part of the scientific community.

Said Martian vehicle is called Mars Perseverance Rover and it carries within it a complete analysis unit capable of examining various rocky specimens autonomously. Its very first rock sample was extracted in the jezero delta, but finding this mineable stone has not been an easy task for scientists.

In addition, the harvest that took place proved to be a good choice since the collection of the nucleus was a great success. The sample extracted from the source rock is a rocky heart measuring 6.70 cm in length, which makes it the most massive nucleus never analyzed.

The first activity on this rock was a success

Indeed, the first experiment carried out on this stone was a polishing called Thornton Gap. As the researchers hoped, it was a success. The analysis revealed the inner layer of the rock without damaging its entire surrounding structure. Moreover, according to observations, the rock would contain clasts sharp with distinctive boundaries.

Discovery of Persevernace at Jezro

Then, an analysis of the center of the stone by the researchers shows that the same clasts visible in the luster patch are also present in the core. Furthermore, according to other observations made on the drilling, the rock is currently the softest ever extracted. Therefore, it only took one low degree of percussion to evolve within it.

Finding an exploitable rock proved difficult

Due to the lack of scientific interest in the stones sampled previously, the researchers had to draw up a list of criteria that an exploitable rock had to meet. Therefore, martian rock should be drill resistant and large enough to have a wear and two cores.

Following explorations, the rover finally came across a beautiful rock mass named Skinner Ridge that meets the criteria sought by scientists. In addition, it should be noted that the Perseverance mission baptizes areas according to various national reserves on Earth. The rover is currently within the Shenandoah Quadrilateral, according to the name of the US national park in Virginia.
