Qualcomm is already working on the next Snapdragon 7 Gen 2, here are some details

During the month of May 2022, Qualcomm officially launched its Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, its new chip aimed at mid-range smartphones. Less than six years later, it seems that the American company specializing in processors for mobile phones is already working on the successor to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1.

In any case, that’s what some observers think, who noticed that Qualcomm was actively working on a processor with the model number SM7475. For them, it is very likely that the chip in question will ultimately be the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2.

Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 really or Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 simply?

At this stage, nothing really indicates that it is truly the successor to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Already, it should be noted that the processor whose model number is the SM7475 may well ultimately be an improved version of the chip launched in May 2022. We’ve seen a similar scenario happen for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in the past.

In addition to this, it should be noted that the characteristics given by tipster Roland Quandt, about the processor model number SM7475, are very similar to those of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1. It appears that the future CPU will benefit from a tri-cluster design with a main core, three gold cores and four cores silver. The main core spins at a speed of 2.4 GHz which is very close to that of golden cores. For their part, the silver cores are limited to a rate of 1.8 GHz.

Staying with this description, one would be tempted to say that it is simply the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1. However, for some time now the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 processor has appeared on benchmarks with an estimated calculation speed at 2.55GHz.

The next Snapdragon Summit should better situate us

There are reservations about the fact that the processor identified with the model number SM7475 is really the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 SoC.

Qualcomm is expected to opt for a new configuration for the cores of its new chip. Thus, the primary and gold cores of the new processor should be Cortex A715 type instead of the Cortex A710 like the one found in the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1. On the other hand, the silver cores should still be A510 type.

With this improvement, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 could deliver greater performance and exhibit better efficiency. What the confidences made about the processor model number SM7475 do not seem to say.

The Snapdragon Summit, which is Qualcomm’s next event, should nevertheless put us in a better position. This will take place during the month of November and should allow the American manufacturer to announce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. He could take the opportunity to give us clues about the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 if so. that he is actually working on it. So make the appointment.
